Abstract

Statistics present a sobering picture of the position of women in India. even women who are privileged in terms of a good education continue to lag behind men as far as share in leadership positions are concerned. This is true of many fields including science and technology. Apart from external barriers, societal conditioning causes women to internalize negative messages which hold them back and prevent them from translating academic gains into professional success. This is true of women in India as much as in the developed countries.
